I wanted to blog about this weeks ago but couldn’t find a local hook. Thanks, Best Buy, for getting me one. (Scroll down if you’re a huge Guns N’ Roses fan, don’t care about my ramblings and just want to get to the point.)
“Chinese Democracy” is coming.
It seems unreal to be saying this without the explanation that “is coming” means “sometime, but don’t hold your breath.” The album was promised almost a decade and a half ago, and thanks to millions of dollars wasted on studio time and false-start releases, it’s reached legendary status.
When news reports popped up that it’s actually going to be available on Nov. 23 — this year, not the next — my jaw dropped. It was the top story of the day, the kind of news my buddies and I talked about nonstop.
Not that any of us are going to buy the thing.
Sorry, Axl, but I stopped caring about your band right about the time you trotted on stage at the MTV Video Music Awards with Buckethead, your upside-down KFC bucket-wearing clown of a guitarist. I know he’s out of the band — so are 50 other people, right? — but I still don’t care.
So with that out of the way, here’s the news hook:
Tonight, for those of you who do still care, the Fine Line Music Cafe is hosting an 18+ sneak preview of the album. Those who pre-ordered the album at Best Buy get to jump the line at the first-come, first-served party and also are qualified to receive a free T-shirt. It starts at 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
