From Sportswear to Streetwear: American Innovation will feature garments from the Goldstein’s own collection. This will include designer and brands such as Ralph Lauren, Hermes, Gucci, Valentino, Lilly Pulitzer, Juicy Couture and Converse. The exhibition will also show the migration of specialty fabrics such as quik-dri and stretch, and styles such as golf shirts, ski pants, equestrian-wear, and athletic shoes into non-sport casual dress. Minneatures by Plasticgod

Los Angeles based artist Plasticgod took to drawing the minute he picked up a pencil at two years of age. A graduate of Art Center College of Design in Pasadena his works are found in the collections of an extensive list of celebrities including Madonna, Michael Jackson and Hugh Hefner. His work is featured on the walls of MTV Real World: Hollywood and he recently completed a limited edition poster for Linkin Park. Fit for a Queen: Nobel Gowns of H.M. Queen Silvia of Sweden, American Swedish Institute, 2600 Park Ave, Minneapolis. ON loan from the Royal Collections of Sweden, eighteen of Queen Silvia’s Nobel gowns from 1976-2006 will be on display. The gowns were all commissioned for the queen, who worked closely on the design of each with prominent designers like Christian Dior, Nina Ricci, and others. New Masters of Wood Turning

The Nina Bliese Gallery premiers a unique collection of wood sculptures from the new publication New Masters of Wood Turning: Expanding the Boundaries of Wood Art throughout the summer months. Twenty-eight international artists’ works will be exhibited exclusively in the Minneapolis gallery along with launching the groundbreaking book on visionaries of new wood sculpture.
The Exhibit dates are June 16 through September 26, 2008.
More than 50 pieces of sculptural wood will be available at the gallery and include works by artists Binh Pho (Vietnam), Marilyn Campbell (Canada) and Peter Hromek (Germany).
Special group tours can be arranged to learn more about how turning has evolved into a contemporary form of personal expression.

"The Making of Speaking of Home: Artist's Conversation on the Creation of the Twin Cities' First Skyway Art Project

This conversation with Nancy Ann Coyne, Vickie Benson and Ben Heywood will explore the creative forces that led to the construction of the Speaking of Home project. Nancy Ann Coyne is a photographer and public artist. Since 1984, she has lived and worked in the US, Europe, Israel, and the Republic of Georgia as a photographer, consultant, and independent scholar. Vickie Benson is Program Director for the Arts at the McKnight Foundation. Ben Heywood is excecutive director of the Soap Factory, an exhibition space located in the National Purity Soap Company building in Minneapolis that showcases risk-taking visual art by new and emerging artists.

Mary Lingen: Seasons

Mary Lingen graduated from Augsburg College with a B.A. in Studio Artin 1981 and she has been making art ever since. Lingen’s focus haslong been the landscape, particularly scenes of dense forests and lushvegetations. With a background in classical piano, the artist likens herprocess of painting to that of composing music. Each artwork possessesits own harmonies and rhythms that develop during its creation. Just astrees and plants in a forest grow with and around one another to createa unique space, the shapes and strokes in Lingen’s oil paintings worktogether to construct a new vision each time.
